The Last Great Colosseum was the site of Ty Gibbs first NASCAR Cup Series win. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver won the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway in an overtime finish after leading just 25 laps during the race.
Gibbs took the restart from first on the outside with Kyle Larson behind him and Ryan Blaney alongside him on the inside. Gibbs stayed wide to defend Larson while Blaney ran the bottom line but came up 0.055 seconds short at the flag, which was the closest margin of victory at the track since electronic scoring was implemented.
“It’s awesome. It’s awesome you can do it with great people. To be in this position’s great,” Gibbs said during his front stretch interview after the win. “I would’ve loved for my [late] father to have seen this, but I knew he knew it was gonna happen and expected it as well.”
Gibbs gave the checkered flag to his mother Heather and took her for a victory lap in the No. 54 Toyota Camry.
Larson led the most laps and won the first two stages, while Blaney grabbed the fastest lap of the race.
Gibbs has six top 10 finishes through the first eight races of the 2026 season and the Bristol win moved him up seven spots to fourth in the standings behind Tyler Reddick, Blaney and his JGR teammate Denny Hamlin.
