Ty Gibbs picked up the second wins of his season and NASCAR Cup Series career at Iowa Speedway in a thrilling battle with his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Christopher Bell.
Gibbs finished the first two stages in fourth, but dropped to 28th in Stage 2 after a bad pit stop, then raced back and cycled to the lead with 20 laps to go during the last round of pit stops as took two tires while Bell’s crew opted for four.
Bell put the extra grip to good use and closed the gap, but just couldn’t find the space or speed to make the pass and had to settle for his seventh second-place finish this year.

“Ty did a really good job, he did a great job managing the race, I could tell that he was slipping and sliding around,” Bell said. ” He just didn’t make a mistake.”
“I just had to keep my head down, gel up and stay with it,” Gibbs said.
The win moved Gibbs up two spots into second in the season standings behind his other teammate, Denny Hamlin and ahead of Ryan Blaney, who finished the race in third behind Bell. Five-race-winner Tyler Reddick dropped from second to fourth after wrecking on the fourth lap and finishing the day dead last in 36th. They are the only four drivers locked into The Chase with three races to go in the regular season.
