Mark your calendars, budget electric pickup fans, because June 24 is going to be a big day.
That’s when Slate reservation holders will be able to place preorders for the compact, two-door truck.
The process requires a $300 non-refundable deposit that the original $50 reservation fee counts towards and will lock in a delivery window. Timing for the first of those has not yet been announced, but Slate has been promising that deliveries will begin before the end of 2026 and that the final price will be in the mid-$20,000 range. Reservation holders will have 30 days to place a deposit, but they can bump the reservation to a later window, if they aren’t ready to commit yet.
“You can continue to make changes to your design and will finalize your configuration, select financing and sign a purchase agreement when your delivery window gets closer,” the notification says.
Beyond the basic truck, which is being offered as a no-frills model with 150-mile and 240-mile battery pack options, wraps and accessories will be available to add to the preorder starting sometime this fall.
The Indiana-built Slate was originally pitched as a $20,000 vehicle, but that included the now discontinued $7,500 federal tax credit. The two-door, two-seat pickup can be converted into a two-row, five-passenger SUV with an aftermarket kit that Slate will offer as an accessory.
