Alex Palou bounced back from his seventh place finish in the Indy 500 to win on the streets of Motown.
The Chip Ganassi Racing driver led 71 of 100 laps to win the Detroit Grand Prix and pick up his fourth victory of the season.
Palou took the lead for good on lap 69 thanks to a savvy pit strategy and survived four restarts on his way to the checkered flag, ultimately beating last year’s winner, Kyle Kirkwood, by 3.0584 seconds pulling away. It was his second career win on the street circuit.
“It feels like the first time, honestly” Palou said. “It was a tough one, a very tough one. But the team did an incredible job once again with the strategy. The pit stops were incredible. Incredible run, incredible start of the year, but it was tough.”

Palou is the points leader after eight races and followed by Kirkwood as the series heads to World Wide Technology Raceway in St. Louis on June 7, where Kirkwood won last year.
