Kyle Busch Was Set To Return To Richard Childress Racing In 2027

Kyle Busch was upbeat about his NASCAR career just days before is untimely death on May 21 at age 41.

HIs boss Richard Childress said he had a “great conversation” with Busch that week after a string of strong performances and that he was optimistic about the rest of the season.

“You give me cars like you did the last three weeks, and he said, “I will make the Chase this year,'” Childress said at a press conference at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday. “We were that confident.”

Childress also revealed that Busch had signed a one-year extension and that the plan was to announce it today.

He also confirmed that the plan is to have Austin Hill continue to drive Busch’s entry for the rest of the season.

“Kyle will go down in history as one of the greatest race car drivers that’s ever been,” Childress said. “He’ll definitely be in the Hall of Fame and I’d love to see them put him in it right away.”

“I think his legacy is going to be he was a man who a lot of people thought was tough to deal with,” Childress said acknowledging Busch’s legendarily bold personality. “
