Chevy’s New 8.2-liter V8 Is A Big Block Deal

The Chevrolet Performance SP502 EFI

Chevy is injecting a little modern tech into its big block engine. Chevrolet Performance has revealed the new SP502 EFI crate motor, which adds electronic fuel injection to the popular 502-cubic-inch V8.

Chevrolet teased its impending arrival a few weeks ago and then followed up by showing it off at the Hot Rod Power Tour ahead of its launch later this year. The 8.2-liter iron block V8 sports a neatly designed EFI system mounted on top, but technical details and specifications have not yet been announced.

The carbureted version of the naturally aspirated engine is rated at 605 hp and 580 lb-ft and typically retails for around $17,000. It is sold as only legal for street use in pre-emissions cars and trucks and Chevrolet doesn’t offer a factory version of it in any production vehicles.

Chevrolet does have a big new V8 on the way to showrooms, however. It’s new 6.7-liter LS6 that debuted with the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport.

It’s rated at 535 hp and 520 lb-ft in the Corvette and there will likely be a truck version that will be offered in the next-generation 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 that will be unveiled soon, although General Motors has not formally said as much.
