IndyCar’s Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix at Nashville Superspeedway was postponed from Sunday to Monday due to rain and now it’s being squeezed by the heat.
The planned 300-lap race that’s scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. CT, 3 p.m. ET, has been shortened from the planned 300 laps to 225 due to an extremely high heat index forecast to reach higher than 115 degrees.
The race was 225 last year, when hometown favorite Josef Newgarden was the winner, but was lengthened this season with the anticipation of a huge TV audience provided by the FIFA World Cup final lead-in.
That didn’t happen, as the game went into extra time, which delayed the start of the race by an hour asa rain moved into the area.
The rescheduled event will still be broadcast live on Fox and teams will still be required to use at least one set of primary and two sets of alternate tires during the race, as was the plan for the longer distance.
Kyle Kirkwood is starting from pole position and will lead the field to the green flag with Newgarden beside him on the front row.
