The 1,064 hp Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is one of the all-time supercar bargains, even at its $200,195 base price. That’s assuming you can actually find one of the 233 mph cars to buy at that price.
Dealer markups on the model are common and the auction market is getting wild, even though resales within the first year void the warranty. A new high bar was just set at the Mecum Auctions event in Harrisburg, Pa., with the sale of a very limited edition car.
The 2026 convertible is No. 249 of 250 Stars & Steel collection Corvettes that were built to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, with 25 of those being ZR1s. The 3ZL trim example is also one of just three that were ordered with the Carbon Fiber Aero package. That and all of the other options added would put its MSRP in the $240,000 range.
When the bidding was through, the car was sold for $561,000 with five miles on its odometer, which is a new record for a C8 ZR1, not counting charity auctions. The very first 2025 car was bought by NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick for $3.7 million with the entire hammer price earmarked for the American Red Cross.
It wasn’t the only limited edition Corvette sold in Harrisburg. A 2026 Corvette ZR1X Quail Silver Limited Edition Convertible with seven miles on the odometer that was No. 47 of 60 built went for $473,000, but the seller may have been disappointed. The No. 11 car was sold at the Mecum Auctions Indy event in May for $605,000.

That’s the current record for a regular ZR1X sale, while the charity record was set in January when Mr. Hendrick paid $2.6 million for a unique Stars & Steel collection car with several styling touches that set it apart from the other 249 Corvettes.
