Chevrolet celebrated the USA’s 250th birthday with a lineup of Stars & Steel models, including a Colorado Trail Boss that featured black American flag-style graphics, but someone is about to drive home in a GM truck that oozes red, white and blue.
The custom 1975 GMC Jimmy is unlike any other and was just sold through a Hagerty Marketplace auction.
The rear-wheel-drive SUV had its roof, rollbar and rear seats removed and its suspension lowered. The white two-door has a colorful Stars & Stripes graphic draped over its fiberglass cowl hood, which runs down its front fenders and onto the doors.
The Jimmy is powered by a 350-cubic-inch V8 equipped with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor and Moroso valve covers. It rides on 15-inch Weld wheels and sends the power to a set of fat Mickey Thompson DOT drag radials. The odometer read 31,400 miles at the time of the auction, but its true mileage is unknown.
The truck was part of a large collection of vehicles owned by Alabama car collector Greg Rusk that were being offered through the online auction.
When the auction wrapped up on Monday, Aug. 31, the winning bidder paid $18,725, which is about a third of the price a new full-size truck sells for today, if you could even get one anything like it.
Actually, you can. Arkansas-based custom truck shop Flat Out Autos converts GMC Sierra 1500s into two-door Jimmy-style trucks. It starts with a regular cab, long bed Sierra 1500, shortens the wheelbase by 22 inches, removes the rear cabin wall, modifies the bodywork with the sides from a short bed truck and constructs a removable roof.
It’s a little more expensive than the 1975 truck, however, with builds starting at $146,000, but we’re sure they’d be happy to throw a flag on there, if you like.
