The Tesla Cybercab is set to make its formal debut in Austin, Texas, on Thursday, Sep. 3, but exactly where is still secret.
The automaker invited a select group of supporters and creators to the event, which it and Elon Musk have been hyping up on X, but it has not yet publicly released any details.
Cybercab engineer Eric Earley did post to X that it is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. ET in downtown Austin, but did not reveal the precise location.
The initial invitations sent out were similarly vague and told attendees that they could bring a guest, as long as the guest is not a creator, which suggests the list was meticulously curated to ensure the type of response Tesla is aiming to get for the fully autonomous vehicle.

Tesla currently operates Robotaxi fleets in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Tampa and Orlando using a mix of Tesla Model Ys and Cybercabs. It currently has 420 Robotaxis registered across Texas including 45 Cybercabs, according to Reuters.
Tesla hasn’t confirmed if the event will be livestreamed, but there’s little doubt that it will, and you can expect it to be broadcast on Tesla’s X and YouTube channels.
What’s also unknown is what Tesla is planning to announce. Whether it is simply the addition of the production two-seat Cybercab without a steering wheel and pedals into the Robotaxi fleet or if they will be available to purchase by retail customers.

Elon Musk had previously said the plan was to allow customers to own Cybercabs and register them with the Robotaxi fleet, where they would earn money when the owners don’t need them for personal use, but current regulations would not facilitate such a scheme.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has proposed a rule change that would allow fully autonomous vehicles to be sold without human controls, but it is not yet in effect. In the meantime, the number of test vehicles that can be deployed are limited and also regulated at the state level.
