Either Tesla Can’t Tell Time, Or The Roadster Is A Time Machine

The Tesla Roadster Event Announcement

Tesla has reconfirmed that the Roadster reveal event scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 15 in McGregor, Texas, is still on with a social media post that includes a glaring error.

It says, “Roadster event streaming live this Thursday at 7:55pm CST,” which is technically incorrect.

CST is the abbreviation for Central Standard Time, but it’s currently Central Daylight Time, or CDT, and will be until the clocks change at 2 a.m. on Nov. 1. Even Elon Musk didn’t correct the discrepancy when he quote posted it with the comment, “Timing is everything.”

It’s hard to figure why Tesla would’ve done this intentionally, but it is known for adding hints and hidden Easter eggs into its messaging. In fact, if you adjust the contrast on the announcement’s image the phrase “Where We’re Going” can be seen on the car, just below what looks like the vehicle’s optional SpaceX cold gas thruster exhausts.

That is, of course, part of a line from the movie “Back to the Future” that ends with, “we don’t need roads,” and presumably a reference to the Roadster’s ability to use the thrusters to fly or hover to some extent.

It was also pointed out in the comments on the post that 7:55 p.m. is 19:55 on a 24-hour clock and “Back to the Future” was largely set in 1955, but that could be a stretch.

Perhaps someone just screwed up, or is hopeful that the federal government will revoke Daylight Saving Time and make every day Standard Time. In any event, all of these mysteries and more should be cleared up sometime after 7:55 p.m. CDT on Thursday, unless Tesla knows something about time that we don’t.
