Iron Man was an Audi R8 man for his first two solo film outings, but he switched to Acura when he became an Avenger in 2012.
Acura built a one-off NSX Roadster concept for the character to drive in “The Avengers” which previewed the styling of the second-generation NSX coupe concept that debuted at the 2012 New York Auto Show. Its inclusion was part of a broader collaboration with Marvel that included Acura products appearing in several other properties, including “Thor” and the “Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D.” television show.
Stark’s car was actually based on the chassis of a very well-used first-generation 1991 NSX and is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.0-liter V6. According to the listing, it shows 252,200 miles on its odometer.
The final design was done at Acura’s Advanced Design Studio in Los Angeles and the car was built by movie car specialist Trans FX in Oxnard. The production hybrid NSX that followed in 2016 would be an all-American product assembled at Honda’s Performance Manufacturing Center in Ohio.

Acura has kept the Stark car ever since, but is now auctioning it for charity online through Cars&Bids. The buyer can pick the charity of their choice, as long as Acura approves it, and Acura will also make a donation to the Sundance Institute for film. Unfortunately, the car is not street legal and is being offered on a bill of sale. The bidding is open until Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. ET, just weeks before the Dec. 18 premiere of “Avengers: Doomsday,” in which Robert Downey Jr. portrays Dr. Doom instead of Tony Stark … as far as we’ve been told.

Second-generation NSX production ended in 2022. Acura had been planning to follow it up with an all-electric supercar in 2028, but has since shifted away from EVs and has not yet announced new plans for a direct successor.
