The Yangwang U9 Extreme continues to live up to its name.

China’s $2.75 million electric supercar has become the first production vehicle to break the 500 kmh mark with a 503.17 kmh top speed that converts to 312.7 mph.

The four-motor 2,977 hp coupe had previously cracked 300 mph, but 500 kmh was a round number goal worth chasing for the rest of the world.

The feat was accomplished on the public Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Road in Abu Dhabi with German racing driver Marc Basseng behind the wheel.

The speed was confirmed by the FIA, but it was only achieved in a single direction and only stands as a record for that category.

The two-way speed record still belongs to the American SSC Tuatara, which hit 455.3 kmh or 282.9 mph at the Space Florida’s Launch Landing Facility at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida in 2021.
