These Are The 21 Safest US-Built Cars For 2025
The bar has been raised.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has released the list of of new vehicles that have earned its Top Safety Pick awards for 2025.
The organization made the test tougher this year by increasing the requirements for second row passenger safety and the number of winners dropped 71 last year to 48. Just two pickup trucks earned awards.
“We’re once again challenging automakers to make their new models even safer than those they were building a year ago,” IIHS President David Harkey said in a news release. “Every vehicle that earns a 2025 award offers a high level of safety in both the front seat and the second row.”
Twelve were given the Top Safety Pick designation and 36 the highest Top Safety Pick+ designation, which has more stringent crash test result requirements. Not all of the latest vehicles on sale has been evaluated to date, however, with the Tesla Cybertruck being a notable omission.
Less than half of the safest models are made in USA and just three of those are from two American brands. Here’s a look at the full list of US-built award winers:

The Santa Fe is built in Alabama and the award applies to vehicles manufactured after November 2024.
KIA EV9 – TOP SAFETY PICK+
Most 2025 Kia EV9s sold in the U.S. are built in Georgia, but a minority are imported from South Korea.
KIA TELLURIDE – TOP SAFETY PICK+
The Telluride is built in Georgia.
NISSAN PATHFINDER – TOP SAFETY PICK+
The Pathfinder is built in Tennessee.
BMW X5 – TOP SAFETY PICK+
The X5 is built in South Carolina.
