Joey Logano won pole position for the Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in a Penznoil-sponsored car, but the first thing he was asked about in his press conference was “Glovegate.”

Logano was caught last week during qualifying at Atlanta using a webbed glove he held up to the gap between the roof pillar and window netting in an effort to gain an aerodynamic advantage and was penalized for the race and fined $10,000.

The penalties were technically for violating fire safety rules governing driver equipment.

Logano said he took responsibility for wearing it, but suggested it was the team’s idea that he was presented with.

“I didn’t build the glove. I didn’t make it on my own,” he joked.

“I can’t sew.”

Logano said he wasn’t concerned the glove was unsafe and wouldn’t have worn it if he had been.

“I have kids, I have a wife, I have family that I care way more about than race cars.”

As far as how much it might have helped him, he’s not sure it made that big of a difference.

“It’s directionally better. How much better? Probably nothing,” he said.

“That’s the part that hurts the most, it isn’t worth it.”
