1948 Chrysler Town and Country

The Chrysler Town And Country is one of the all-time kings of the American road.

The was first launched as a wagon in 1941 before the model took a break for World War 2, then returned in 1946 in sedan, coupe and convertible styles with its iconic wood doors and bodywork.

It lived through eight generations in various car guises before the name was transferred to Chrysler’s first minivan in 1990, which would be replaced by the Pacifica in 2017.

While the minivan and most of the models before it wore faux wood trim, the 1948 cars were still built with real ash and mahogany. Just 1,176 of the sedans were sold in that last year, making them sought-after collectibles.

The Town and Country sedan’s original price was roughly $3,000, which would be $40,000 today, but this beauty is worth much more than that. The car sold for $110,000 with all of the auction fees added in and it value could be increased quite a bit with a little work, according to Hagerty, which estimates a concours-quality car would go for closer to $175,000. To put that into some perspective, a Chrysler Pacifica in the top Pinnacle luxury trim lists for around $60,000, but you can’t get wood panels on the doors.
