The countdown to the electric Ford Fathom pickup’s launch remains on schedule. Ford CEO Jim Farley said during the automaker’s third-quarter earnings call on Wednesday that the small truck is still slated to enter production in the fourth quarter of 2027.
“Yesterday, I had the opportunity to drive our prototype. Wow, it completely blew me away,” Farley said. “0-to-60, huge room inside, and the hands-free ADAS [Advanced Driver Assistance System] experience was like something I’ve never experienced. Fathom is really a breakthrough product. It’s highly capable, innovative, and affordable, and that EV product will be available to more Americans way ahead of our competition.”
The Ford Maverick-size model’s cabin is larger than a Toyota RAV4’s, but Ford has not yet confirmed the bed size. Prices will range from $29,945 to the high $30,000s, according to Ford President Andrew Frick.
Ford hasn’t released specifications on power and driving range, but has said that it will be as quick as a Ford Mustang EcoBoost, and Farley said it has “an incredible rear-wheel drive performance feel and [is] a lot of fun to drive.” An all-wheel drive versions will also be offered and the ADAS will include optional hands-free driving capability. The Fathom will also have bidirectional charging capability that allows it to power a home as either a backup generator or an energy storage system that can be charged at low off-peak rates and used during the day.

Pre-orders open in the first quarter of 2027, while production of the American-made vehicle and its battery packs will start slowly late in the year and ramp up in the first half of 2028, so availability could be tight early on if demand is as strong as Ford hopes. Ford expects it to bring in new customers and compete with used cars, which Frick said now account for 50% of all vehicle sales at less than $40,000.
