A Beat-Up Ford GT Prototype Parked Since 2019 Is Being Auctioned And Likely Worth A Small Fortune

Ford is cleaning out its supercar garage.

The automaker is putting two prototypes that were used to develop the second-generation GT that launched in 2017 up for auction at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale event. The proceeds will be used to support the preservation of the Ford Heritage Fleet , its archive of historic vehicles.

One of the cars is a validation prototype that was partially hand-built in 2015. It features unpainted carbon fiber bodywork, an early version of the GT’s 3.5-liter V6 powertrain and extended exhaust pipes.

Some of the carbon fiber is frayed and the tiny rear trunk is filled with some wiring and other parts, but the vehicle is mostly in one piece.

According to the records with it, the car was last used in 2019 as Ford continued to tweak the GT and its components.

The vehicle is being offered on a bill of sale and is expressly prohibited from being used on the street. It will be crossing the block on Saturday, Jan. 24th along with another GT that’s in much better condition.

It is one of the prototypes for the track-only GT Mk. II that went on sale in 2019. The car started out as a standard GT that was fitted new bodywork inspired by the GT race cars, along with an engine upgraded from 647 hp to 700 hp.

Major changes from the street GT are the switch from an adjustable wing to a gooseneck wing and the addition of an aggressive splitter, diffuser, fender louvers, dive planes, along with a roof-mounted air intake.

Ford also replaced the GT’s suspension, which has two sets of springs that provide two ride heights, with a fixed system that uses adjustable Multimatic DSSV dampers. The car was used as a promotional vehicle and never previously sold. Barrett-Jackson doesn’t offer pre-auction estimates for its lots, but customer GTs typically sell in the $1-$2 million range.
