New Cheap Tesla Model Y All-Wheel Drive Launched As Brand Kills ‘Standard’ Name

Tesla may consider itself the standard of the electric car market, but you can’t buy a Standard Tesla anymore.

Tesla launched new entry-level Standard versions of the rear-wheel drive Model 3 and Model Y last October, with starting prices at Prices start at $38,630 and $41,630, respectively, and has now added an all-wheel drive Model Y to the low-cost list.

It’s simply called the Model Y All-Wheel Drive and the old Standard is now the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive, as is the Model 3’s version.

The Model Y All-Wheel Drive starts at $43,630, including destination fees. It is rated for 294 miles of range and can accelerate to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, according to Tesla.

The interior features cloth upholstery and the model is only offered in three paint colors. Stealth Gray is included in the base price, while Pearl White Multi-Coat is $1,000 and Diamond Black $1,500.

Tesla’s semi-autonomous Full Self-Driving feature is available for purchase at $8,000, but only until February 14. After that, Tesla is switching the system to a $99 monthly subscription for all of its models.

Tesla has an even more significant update to its lineup on the way, as it has announced plans to discontinue the Model S and Model X sometime in the second quarter of the year as it shifts its focus to the Model Y, Model 3 and upcoming fully-autonomous Cybercab, which may end up being sold under a different name.
