This Rocks! Jeep Wrangler And Gladiator Rubicon Sales Hit 1 million

2003 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

Jeep’s Rubicons have gone where no hardcore off-road trucks have gone before … to seven figures.

The extreme off-road trim has officially crested the one million sales mark less than a quarter-century after its introduction.

“Reaching one million Jeep  Rubicon vehicles sold is a powerful testament to the passion of our owners and the unmatched authenticity of the Jeep brand,” Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf said in a news release.

“For decades, Rubicon has represented the purest expression of Jeep off-road capability. That legacy has been shaped not just by our engineers, but by the global community of off-road enthusiasts who push these vehicles to their limits and inspire us to raise the bar.”

The Rubicon first launched as a two-door Wrangler in 2003 that had been developed as a side project by a group of engineers. It had a 4.0-liter straight-six with rated at 190 hp and 235 lb-ft, Dana 44 axles, front and rear locking differentials, the original 4:1 ratio Rock-Trac transfer case and 31-inch tires. Today, 35-inch tires are a factory option.

The Rubicon trim is now offered on two-door and four-door Wranglers as well as the Gladiator pickup. All are available with Jeep’s 3.6-liter V6 rated at 285 hp and 260 lb-ft, while the Wranglers are also offered with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder rated at 270 hp and 295 lb-ft. The 6.4-liter V8-powered Wrangler Rubicon 392 was discontinued for 2026 and replaced by the Wrangler Moab 392, which is essentially the same, but technically no longer part of the Rubicon family, so its sales won’t be counting toward the next million.
