Chevrolet has some “big” engine news on the way. The Chevrolet Performance Instagram account has posted a teaser image of a new engine along with the caption, “Something BIG is coming… ”
The cropped shot shows a black metal intake manifold with a white Chevy bowtie and trim that’s unlike anything it currently offers.
The fact that it was posted to the Chevrolet Performance account, rather than Chevy’s main account, suggests that it could be an upcoming crate motor, but the image shows it installed in a vehicle, expanding the possibilities.
“Big” could refer to a new big block V8 or a crate version of the new 6.7-liter small block V8 that is launching with the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport, which is bigger than the 6.2-liter it replaces.
It could also have something to do with the size of the vehicle it will be installed in, like the all-new 2027 full-size Chevrolet Silverado pickup, for which the new V8 family is primarily meant.
The Chevrolet Silverado has been trailing behind the competition at Ford and Ram for years, with its most powerful engine being the 420 hp 6.2-liter V8, while both offer several options that surpass that by significant amounts.

Chevrolet also has a new Camaro on the way next year and it will definitely be packing a version of the V8 when it arrives, so the post could be getting things revved up for that car’s debut.
In any event, GM usually follows a social media tease with a full reveal pretty quickly, so we should know more about this new engine very soon.
