The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X continued is conquest of the world’s racing circuits with a record run in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

Pro racing driver JR Hildebrand drove the hybrid 1,250 hp all-wheel-drive Corvette up the 12.42-mile in 9:30.104 to break the previous record of 9:53 that was set in 2022 by David Donner in a Porsche 911 Turbo S. The time was also good for a ninth place overall finish.

The ZR1X already holds track records at Sonoma Raceway, Virginia International Raceway and other venues and was the American record holder at the Nürburgring until its time was bested by the Ford Mustang GTD Competition. However, the Nürburgring times remain hotly debated as they were both set in the pre-production/prototype class for various reasons and pitted an engineer driving for Chevrolet against Ford Racing driver Dirk Müeller in the Mustang.

Ford also sent one of its pros to Pikes Peak this year. Romain Dumas returned in the all-electric Super Mustang Mach-E to challenge the all-time record of 7:57.148 he set in the electric Volkswagen ID.R in 2018, after last year’s race was shortened due to inclement weather. The purpose-built, high-downforce car is powered by a tri-motor all-wheel drive system that generates more than 1,400 hp. Unfortunately, while he won the event, he came up short of the record with a time of 8:18.202.
