Ford Has Built 94 F-Series Super Duty Trucks In Canada

The Ford F-Series Super Duty’s conquest of the Great White North is underway.

In 2024, Ford announced that it was canceling plans to build an electric SUV at its Oakville Assembly Complex in Canada and would produce F-Series Super Duty trucks there instead at a rate of 100,000 annually. That represents a nearly 25% increase over the output of the Kentucky and Ohio factories that are currently cranking out the truck at maximum capacity. Ford hasn’t gotten there yet, but its most recent sales report confirms that it started building trucks at the factory in April and completed 94 through June. (The exact figures were 6 in April, 37 in May and 51 in June, so things are trending up.)

It hasn’t formally announced the start of deliveries, so it is likely the trucks counted so far are pre-production validation builds used to iron out issues before volume manufacturing kicks in. Automakers often use early builds for promotional purposes and supply them to employees for feedback.

Ford also built 175,641 of the trucks in Kentucky and Ohio during the period, which puts them on the same pace as last year. The F-Series Super Duty has been exclusively built in the U.S. since 2008, with most of them produced at the Kentucky Truck Plant, which accounted for 160,721 of the total through June. The other 14,920 were built at the smaller Ohio Assembly Plant, which also manufactures Ford’s medium duty and E-Series models.

Ford has engineered the Oakville Assembly Complex with flexibility in mind and the capability to manufacture “multi-energy” trucks, which means hybrid, electric and extended-range electric powertrains could be added to the mix when the next-generation F-Series Super Duty arrives around 2029.

Ford has also confirmed that the next-generation F-150 Lightning will switch from an all-electric to extended-range electric powertrain, which features electric drive, but is equipped with an internal combustion engine that works as a generator on long trips, which makes it more suitable for towing.

All F-150 production will continue in the U.S., however, and Ford is adding a new truck to the lineup that will enter production at its new Tennessee Truck Plant in 2029. Ford hasn’t offered any details on the model line, but said the “new affordable gas-powered trucks will broaden Ford’s truck family and extend its market leadership”
