Ford is brightening up the Mustang Dark Horse SC with the reveal that the potent pony car will be offered as a convertible in 2027.
The drop top will come powered by the same 795 hp supercharged 5.2-liter V8 as the coupe along with its seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and computer-controlled MagneRide dampers.
A lightweight magnesium tower-to-tower brace across the engine helps keep the structure rigid in the absence of the roof.
“If the coupe is the race-bred side of our DNA, this convertible is the pure street cred part of the formula,” Ford Racing global director Mark Rushbrook said in a news release. “It’s just pure fun, fast, freedom.”
The model is something of a surprise as the 2020-2023 Mustang Shelby GT500 it essentially replaces was never available as a convertible, although the previous generation Shelby GT500 was.
Ford hasn’t released any performance specifications for the Dark Horse SC convertible or coupe, but the less powerful Shelby GT500 could do 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds and cover a quarter-mile in 10.7 seconds.
Ford also debuted a new Precision Purple paint color with the announcement and will begin taking orders for the Dark Horse SC convertible late this year for deliveries slated to begin in early 2027.
