The latest Jeep Cherokee just launched this year as an all-new model, but it’s days are already numbered.
Jeep has announced that the Mexican-built compact SUV will be replaced by the a next generation Cherokee in 2029.
The new one will shift from the current STLA Large platform it shares with the electric Wagoneer S to the recently announced STLA One platform that will underpin many models for all of the Stellantis brands in the coming years.
STLA One has been engineered accommodate a range of vehicle sizes from subcompact cars to midsize SUVs and can be used with any type of powertrain.

The new Cherokee, which will launch as a 2030 model, will be built at the idle Belvidere Assembly plant in Illinois, which is where the previous generation Cherokee was assembled until 2023.

“Launching the next-generation Cherokee on STLA One allows us to deliver a more competitive product while leveraging the strength of our U.S. manufacturing operations,” Antonio Filosa, Stellantis CEO and North America COO, said in a news release. “Selecting the right product architecture, timing and execution path supports our growth strategy and creates the best long-term outcome and stability for our employees, customers and stakeholders.”

The 2026 Cherokee comes standard with all-wheel drive and a hybrid powertrain rated for 37 mpg at a $36,995 starting price. Jeep has suggested lower priced models with different engines could be added to the lineup in the coming years, but has so far only confirmed the arrival of a hybrid Trailhawk model later this year.
Jeep delivered 10,570 Cherokees through June as production ramped up, with more than 8,000 of them coming in the second quarter. More than 9,000 are currently available in inventory across the country as supplies improve.
