Desert Power Wagons has built a lot of retro-styled trucks, but its latest triples down on the concept.
The North Carolina-based builder calls it Project Colossus. It’s the outfit’s first six-wheel-drive truck, mixing classic Dodge Power Wagon looks with a modified 2021 Ram 1500 TRX chassis.
The body comes from Tisdale Coachworks, which stretched the old-school shape into a four-door crew cab with a long hood and a deep bed. It’s finished in Satin Charcoal Gray with black fenders, black wheels, full-length side steps and Power Wagon lettering on the hood.
The TRX’s 6.2L supercharged Helcat V8 started at 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. National Speed gave it a Stage 3 upgrade with a new camshaft, stiffer valve springs and pushrods, a ported supercharger snout, a larger throttle body, bigger fuel injectors, a smaller upper pulley, long-tube headers and a custom tune. The result is 1,000 horsepower and 925 lb-ft that’s sent through the TRX’s eight-speed automatic.

A full-time BorgWarner transfer case offers 6WD Auto, High and Low, and the rear axle is a Dana 60 with an electronic locker. Bilstein Black Hawk e2 active-damping shocks and upgraded brakes help control the added weight.

All six wheels are Black Rhino BR012 Outbacks wrapped in 38×11.50R18 Toyo Open Country R/T tires. Up front there’s a 12,000-pound WARN winch, and AMP Research power steps make it easier to climb in.

Inside, Pinecone Distressed leather covers the seats, door panels, dash accents and center console. The tech is all modern, with TRX digital gauges, a 12.0-inch Uconnect touchscreen with navigation, dual-zone climate control, a rear camera and a JL Audio sound system. The headliner is a fiber-optic starlight setup. That’s appropriate, because the asking price is a sky-high $599,950. Project Colossus is on display at the Desert Power Wagons booth at the SEMA Show.
