Return Of Plymouth: New Mopar Muscle Car To Be Revealed At SEMA

Mopar hasn’t forgotten about its roots.
The Stellantis-owned parts division is bringing an interesting custom car build to the SEMA Show in November.
Instead one of the existing brands it currently services, Dodge, Ram, Jeep or Chrysler, it’s from Plymouth, which built its last car in 2001.
This one’s much older than that and, from the teaser sketch that has been released, appears to be a 1967 Belvedere GTX.

Marketed as “The Gentlemen’s Muscle Car” the GTX was offered with the choice of a 440 V8 or a 426 Hemi V8. Well preserved examples with the Hemi can be worth more than $150,000 today, including a convertible that was sold at the Mecum Auctions event in Glendale, Ariz., this year for $156,750.

There’s a good chance this one won’t have either of those as the news release titled “Muscle Flex” says “What kind of future is there for a legendary muscle car? A concept from Mopar may show the answer.” One notable difference is that it has rear facing vents on the hood instead of the original simulated scoops.

Mopar offers a wide range of modern crate engines, including the recently released HurriCrate line of 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six-cylinders that are currently available in 420 hp and 550 hp tunes.

However, it also offers the $25,795 Hellehant C170 that’s based on the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 from the Dodge Challenger Demon 170, which can run on E85 to crank out 1,025 hp, making it a “flex fuel” engine. The “future” reference also suggests that it might feature some kind of electric powertrain, but Mopar doesn’t currently offer one. We’ll find out at the show, which runs from Nov. 5 through Nov. 8 in Las Vegas, and it won’t be the only Mopar build on the floor.
