Ford has announced the creation of a new Product Creation and Industrialization team that will drive a massive refresh of the automaker’s portfolio through 2029.

This will include the launch of a small pickup built on its new Universal Electric Vehicle platform, a new midsize pickup and new F-Series trucks — the last being the automaker’s most important models.

Ford has kept the new F-150 and F-Series Super Duty trucks under wraps so far, but during the company’s last earnings call, CEO Jim Farley said, “we’re doubling down on our icons, making the next generation F-150 and Super Duty absolutely breakthroughs in terms of cost, technology, powertrain choice, and functional features. We’re also expanding our off-road and performance lineups across our most important and popular franchises.”

That powertrain choice will include an extended range electric vehicle drivetrain for the next F-150 Lightning that will replace the original’s all-electric setup. This uses electric motors to propel the vehicle, a battery pack for short fully electric trips and a gas engine that works as a generator to provide up to 700 miles of total range between stops.

Ford has previously said that the F-Series Super Duty will be getting a hybrid option, but hasn’t recently provided any new details on what to expect for the heavy duty models.

One wild card that appeared in a patent filed last year was a three-row pickup with six doors, which would certainly qualify as a “breakthrough” product, but Ford has offered no indication that the design is heading for production.

As for the midsize pickups that were mentioned, they are the “new affordable gas-powered trucks” it will at its Tennessee Truck Plant, which is under construction and was originally earmarked to build a new full-size electric pickup that has since been canceled.

Ford just launched an new Ranger midsize pickup in 2024, so the Tennessee truck likely isn’t a replacement for that. However, the company also refers to the smaller Maverick as a midsize model. The Maverick is built in Mexico today and is the lowest-priced vehicle Ford sells in the U.S. It first went on sale for the 2022 model year and got a mid-cycle update in 2025, so it appears to be on track for a total redesign by 2029.
