Ford’s electric drag car is back and apparently more powerful than before.
The Mustang Cobra Jet 2200 revealed today is the latest in a line of battery-powered demonstration cars, following the 1800 and 1400 versions.
Ford hasn’t released any technical information, but the previous numbers refer to the horsepower, so this one should have 2,200 hp
The Mustang Cobra Jet 1800 used four Cascadia Motion electric motors mounted under the hood that sent the power to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic drag racing transmission.

It set the record for the fastest full-bodied electric car with a 7.623 quarter-mile run at 182.16mph, and it sounds like the new one will be aiming to break it.
The 2200’s body is also entirely different from the 1800’s, which was based on the internal combustion engine Mustang Cobra Jet stock class drag car last sold in 2018, suggesting that a Ford Racing could be putting a new model on sale soon.

“This electric drag car was engineered for one thing: pushing the outer limits of quarter-mile performance,” Ford Racing said in a social media post accompanying the first photos of the car.
The car will be making its public debut at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway in Charlotte, N.C., April 24-26 and we expect it will be making runs down the strip.
A Ford spokesman told American Cars And Racing that there will be more details about the car shared this weekend.
