Ford will soon begin taking orders for the next batch of Mustang GTDs, which will included a redesigned Spirit of America model.
The patriotic package pays tribute to the land speed record cars driven by Craig Breedlove when he became the first person to break the 500 mph and 600 mph barriers. The Performance White coupe features updated Race Red and Lightning Blue striping in an asymmetrical pattern running down the center and a set of new Forgeline wheels.
The Spirit of America comes with the Mustang GTD’s Performance Package and sports red mirror caps and endplates for its rear wing, which flashes a white MUSTANG wordmark at the cars it passes when its signature Drag Reduction System flips into high downforce mode.

The car is powered by the standard 815 hp supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that powered a Mustang GTD to a 6:52.072 lap of the Nürburgring, which set an American record at the track that still stands in the production car class.

The time has since been bested by the Corvette ZR1X’s 6:49.275 lap, but that has been classified in the prototypes/pre-production class, where the upcoming Mustang GTD Competition trim recently posted a time of 6:40.835. Both are designed as street legal models, but were excluded from the production car class because they are not yet availble for sale in Europe.

The GTD Competition has unique aerodynamic elements that are even more extreme than the Performance Package, reduced weight, new tires and increased horsepower, but Ford is keeping the details secret for now.

Ford offers the Mustang GTD on an invite-only basis and is accepting applications for the new round of allocations through May 18th at an estimated starting price of $325,000. Exact pricing for the new Spirit of America hasn’t been announced, but the previous edition listed for $429,000 and the package is limited to no more than 20% of Mustang GTD production, which runs at about 500 cars per year.
