When you hear someone say muscle car, there’s a good chance you think of the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 without even realizing it.
It represents the pinnacle of the muscle car era, with a burly body and the most powerful engine of the day: a 450 hp 454-cubic-inch V8. Chevrolet built just 4,475 in Sport Coupe, Convertible and El Camino pickup versions, with about 4,000 of them coupes.
The number that still exist is unknown, but could be in the hundreds. One will be crossing the block at the Mecum Auctions Harrisburg event on June 25th.
It’s fully restored with its original body and a period correct engine that breathes through a Gardner exhaust and sends the power to the 5-spoke SS rear wheels through a Muncie M22 4-speed manual transmission and Positraction rear end.
The car is finished in Tuxedo Black with white rally stripes and has a fully restored black vinyl interior with a split front bench seat. It also comes with two original build sheets and is listed LS6 Registry.

Mecum doesn’t offer a pre-auction estimate for its sale price, but Hagerty says a manual coupe in excellent condition is worth roughly $200,000. The surviving convertibles, which may be less than two dozen, are generally worth twice as much and one sold at the Mecum Indy event in 2024 for $396,000.
