Nissan has revealed a revival plan for its U.S. operations that includes a radical Rogue hybrid and several body-on-frame SUVs and pickups.
One of the trucks will be a new Xterra that will compete against the Toyota 4Runner, Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler.
Nissan revealed a teaser image of its front end — which sports a chiseled hood, original Pathfinder-style intake slots and the Nissan name — but no further details. It is expected to launch in late 2028.
Nissan is planning five truck models on the platform, which should include a new Pathfinder, Frontier and two Infiniti models that will feature V6 and V6 hybrid powertrains. Nissan previously sold Xterras across two generations from 2000 to 2015.

The new Tennessee-built Rogue remains a crossover SUV, but will be the first vehicle offered in the U.S. with Nissan’s e-Power hybrid drivetrain. It is a series hybrid setup that uses electric motors to drive the wheels and a turbocharged three-cylinder gas engine that works as a generator.

The current Honda CR-V Hybrid has a similar arrangement, but the engine can directly drive the wheels at highway speeds, while e-Power is a pure series hybrid design.
The Rogue is Nissan’s best-selling model in the U.S. and was the 15th most popular vehicle overall in 2025.
“Rogue has long been at the heart of Nissan’s success in the U.S. and Canada, and the next generation represents a major step forward for this incredibly important model,” Ponz Pandikuthira, senior vice president, Chief Product & Planning Officer, Nissan Americas said. “With hybrid e‑Power, the all-new Rogue will bring the smooth, responsive feel of electric motor driving to one of the most popular compact SUVs in North America, while staying true to what customers value most – efficiency, confidence and everyday usability.”
