Denny Hamlin Is NASCAR’s $1 Million All-Star

The NASCAR All-Star Race

Denny Hamlin made it three in a row at Dover Motor Speedway in a fashion that may never be repeated.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver won the first All-Star Race ever held at the one-mile track on Sunday, following his victories in the previous two points races in Delaware.

Hamlin started from pole and ran up front all day. He won the first 75-lap segment, finished third in the second and started on pole for the final 200-lap shootout, which featured 26 cars.

Hamlin battled his teammate Chase Briscoe in the closing laps, but got in front of him with eight laps to go and was never challenged again on the way to his second career All-Star Race win.

“We strive to be number one, we did it today,” Hamlin said during his front stretch interview after the race. When asked what he planned to do with his winner-take-all $1 million prize, Hamlin said, “probably give it to mama.”
