The Electric Jeep Recon Is Getting A Gas Engine And There’s A Scrambler On The Way

Jeep Recon

The Jeep Recon first revealed in 2022 with an all-electric powertrain has yet to reach showrooms, but it’s already getting a major update.

The automaker has confirmed that an internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the SUV will now be added to the lineup.

Exactly what ICE powertrain wasn’t revealed, but the Recon is designed on a multi-energy platform that it shares with the 2026 Cherokee, which launched this year as a hybrid, but can accommodate a variety of powertrains. The electric Wagoneer S is also built on this chassis, which is known as STLA Large.

The Recon is about a half-foot longer than the Cherokee and features boxy styling, removable doors and a fully opening fabric roof.

It’s closer to the Wrangler in spirit, but promises more refinement than that body-on-frame truck, thanks to a fully independent suspension and unibody construction.

The electric Recon is set to go on sale sometime this year first in a Moab trim priced at $66,995 with a 650 hp all-wheel-drive system and a 230 mile driving range between charges. Timing for the ICE version was not announced.

The $39,995 Cherokee’s hybrid powertrain is built around a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and rated at 210 hp and 230 lb-ft of torque and the model is rated at 37 mpg combined.

Jeep also reconfirmed plans to launch an extended range electric vehicle version of the Grand Wagoneer, which is a short-range EV with a V6 engine that works as a generator for longer trips.

Separately, a new Wrangler Scrambler was teased with an image of it hidden under a sheet.

No further information was announced, but its is clearly a pickup with a smaller cabin than the Gladiator’s, so it could be a two-door or an extended cab two-door like the Acela Truck Company’s custom Dispatcher.
