Ram made news this week with the launch of its Rumble Bee full-size muscle trucks, but the big news today is that it’s going small.
Ram has already confirmed that there’s a new midsize Dakota on the way next year, but during the Stellantis Investor Day presentation on Thursday it was confirmed that a compact pickup is also coming to the U.S. lineup.
Tim Kuniskis, the head of the North American Stellantis brands, said that it will be based on the Rampage that is currently sold in South America.
The Rampage is roughly the same size as the Ford Maverick and built on a unibody platform shared with the Jeep Compass. It is sold in other countries with a range of gas and diesel turbocharged four-cylinder engines, but no details about the U.S. model were shared.
Kuniskis also didn’t say exactly when it will be on sale, or where it will be built, but it is part of a broader Stellantis plan to refresh the lineups of all of its North American brands through 2030.
The Dakota is slated to go on sale in late 2027 and is also being built on a platform shared with Jeep Gladiator that it will be manufactured alongside it at the current Jeep factory in Toledo, Ohio.

A single cropped image of the truck from the rear showing part of its tailgate, bed and rear window was shared during the presentation, revealing little more than the fact that it appears to feature traditional pickup styling.
However, it was described as the most-powerful midsize pickup, which suggests there will be performance versions offered in the same vein as the Rumble Bees.
For the record, the most powerful midsize pickup on sale today, based on horsepower, is the Ford Ranger Raptor, which has a 405 hp turbocharged V6.
