Ford Racing Unwraps V8-Powered Le Mans Hypercar For America’s 250th Birthday

Ford will be flying the American flag at the 24 Hours of Le Mans next year with a new Hypercar entry and it peeled back a bit of the wrapping paper from it to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.

“Happy 250th America. We’ve got something special planned for you, this year courtesy of #AmericasRace Team. #Americas250” it wrote in a social media post that included an video of the car in profile with the sheet covering it pulled back to expose the door.

The car is finished in a blue and white camouflage pattern made of of the Ford Racing name in various sizes.

Ford previously released a shadowy image of the car depicting it in a wind tunnel that revealed more of its greenhouse, although it is not clear from the new photo if there have been significant updates since then.

Ford has opted to go with the spec Oreca chassis that is also used for the Alpine A424 and Genesis GMR-001, but is powering it with its own 5.4-liter V8, which can be heard idling in the social media post.

The engine is similar to the one used in the Mustang GT3, but will be paired with the hybrid system required by hypercar rules giving the car a total output of around 670 hp.

Ford has already announced the six drivers for its two-car effort to win the race for the first time since 1969. They are Matt Campbell, Tom Blomqvist, Nick Yelloly, Logan Sargeant, Mike Rockenfeller and Sebastian Priaulx.

A Ford spokesman told American Cars And Racing that it will have more info about the car later this year, but the automaker has not yet confirmed when the full unveiling will happen.
