The countdown officially begins now. Ford Racing’s Hypercar has put rubber to pavement for the first time as it prepares for the 2027 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The 5.4-liter V8-based hybrid was rolled out at France’s Circuit Paul Ricard on for its inaugural track test.
The car is a collaboration with chassis designer Oreca and this is the first ime its bodywork has been revealed, with its finer details obscured by a patterned camouflage wrap.
It appears to be a a pretty standard design with low side pods, a roof-mounted air intake and large stabilizer fin, but further work is expected over the coming year. Ford has yet to christen it with a specific name, but the language in a recent job listing for a communications position suggested that it will incorporate the Mustang name.

The fury of its thunderous “Coyote” V8 can be heard in a video posted to social media by a photographer who was present at the event.
With the initial validation tests out of the way, the lineup of drivers Ford Racing has assembled for its two-car assault of Le Mans will now begin amping things up to see what the car can really do.
Ford is aiming for it to become the first car from an American brand to claim the overall win at Le Mans since the famous GT40’s 1966-1969 streak ended with Ford’s withdrawl from the prototype class. It did return in 2016 and take a class win with the GT LM GTE to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its 1966 victory.
