Ford Teases New Bronco And Military Trucks

The Ford Bronco family is migrating to Europe.

Ford has confirmed that a new compact SUV with the Bronco name will enter production at its factory in Spain in 2028.

Ford said it will be a multi-energy model, which means it will be offered with an array of powertrains that could include hybrid and all-electric options.

No further details were announced, but Ford did release a teaser image of it alongside four other new models it will launch in Europe through 2029, which include two “rally-bred” crossovers, an electric SUV and an electric hatchback.

Ford currently sells three Bronco models around the world including the Bronco, the Bronco Sport and the Bronco New Energy, which is an all-electric and hybrid version built and sold in China.

The automaker today also revealed more about a possible expansion into the industry, which CEO Jim Farley touched upon during the company’s first quarter earnings call, when he confirmed it was in discussions with the U.S. government.

It said talks are now taking place in North America and Europe about how it can develop military vehicles off current products using off-the-shelf production parts that will allow it to delivery with “speed, scale, capability, and durability.”

This is the core strategy of GM Defense, which currently supplies the U.S. military with an Infantry Squad Vehicle that is based on the Chevrolet Colorado pickup’s chassis.

Ford highlighted the F-150 and the new Ranger Super Duty, which is sold in Europe and will soon be offered in Europe, as possible platforms for military vehicles. The midsize pickup is designed for severe duty use and can tow nearly 10,000 pounds, but is not yet slated for consumer sales in the U.S.
